From Bossier City to Beyond: The Ark-La-Tex Authority in Work Capacity & Disability Management Since 2010
Founded in 2010, Functional Capacity Experts has established itself as Louisiana's Work Capacity and Disability Authority. Since that time, we've served the Ark-La-Tex region from our Bossier City clinic, providing evidence-based functional capacity evaluations and occupational health services that help professionals make confident, defensible decisions.
What began as a specialized practice focused on functional capacity evaluations has evolved into a comprehensive occupational health center serving eight distinct professional audiences across Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and beyond. Our reputation for excellence has brought clients to us from as far as New Orleans, Dallas, and even Colorado—a testament to the quality and credibility of our work.

Steve Allison, DPT, CME
Dr. Steve Allison is CEO and managing partner at Functional Capacity Experts, LLC. He is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and he has been licensed to practice in Louisiana since 1993. He was the lead author of the FCE Evidence-Based Best Practice Guidelines adopted by American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Orthopedic in 2018, and he co-authored a monograph on Functional Capacity Evaluation and Disability Determination published in 2022 by APTA Orthopedic in 2022. He has also published and/or participated in numerous other articles and a Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) related to FCEs, functional job analysis, functional test validation, and work participation. He has been accepted as an expert witness in various Federal and District court jurisdictions in Louisiana and Colorado as an expert in FCEs, functional job analysis, functional test validation, and orthopedic physical therapy.
Derek Harper, PTA
Derek Harper is an associate partner and licensed physical therapist assistant at Functional Capacity Experts, LLC. He has been licensed to practice in Louisiana since 2003. He is a Bossier City native, graduating from Airline High School and Bossier Parish Community College. His primary focus of practice has been occupational health. He is certified in functional job analysis, functional testing, DOT drug screen collection, and as a Breath Alcohol technician. He enjoys spending time with his family, bass fishing, and rooting for the LSU Tigers!
